A dedicated service for all types of emergency
To cope with all types of emergency (witness or victim of an assault or accident), the new C5 includes the Citroën Emergency service associated with the NaviDrive telematics system.
This free service, available on a 24/7 basis in eight European countries, puts the vehicle occupants in touch with a dedicated help desk.
This call can be made automatically, in the event of impact, or manually, by pressing and holding down the “SOS” button. If the driver is unable to explain exactly what is required, the vehicle is identified using the GPS and the emergency teams are sent out immediately, thus saving precious minutes.
Dependable road manners and high-performance brakes
The new C5 features advanced active safety features:
• The running gear was designed to achieve real improvements in the trade-off between guidance and damping, for the comfort and safety of passengers.
The new C5 gains the sophisticated running gear of the C6, for superlative roadholding.
The stiff body of the new C5 optimises the efficiency of the running gear and distributes vertical force evenly over all four wheels, for excellent road manners. The fine tuning of the suspension thus effectively contributes to the overall balance of the vehicle for more surefooted roadholding.
• The Michelin tyres are also a guarantee of reliability, particularly as they can be associated with a tyre pressure monitor to anticipate insufficient inflation or avoid a puncture.
• The new C5 is fitted with an advanced braking system, with vented discs of between 304 mm and 330 mm in diameter at the front and rear discs of 290 mm.
Dedicated control functions for braking (electronic brakeforce assistance, emergency braking assistance), assistance and steering (ABS, ESP) are fitted as standard. These systems ensure that the driver is able to maintain control even in the most difficult driving situations.
• The new C5 also features a wide range of driving aids contributing to improved vehicle control. They include a speed limiter and cruise control, a tyre pressure monitor, Xenon dual-function directional headlamps and the lane departure warning system (LDWS), one of the first systems designed to address the problem of drowsiness at the wheel. The LDWS detects a lane change, with the indicator off, on a motorway or fast road at speeds of 80 kph and over.
Top-level passive safety
The structure of the new C5 has been considerably reinforced. The front end comprises cantrails with built-in crumple zones attached to shock absorbers, and an aluminium cross-beam. Two impact absorbers – the first extended to run under the floor and the second above the wheel arch – improve vehicle behaviour in the event of frontal impact.
In the central part, the subframe and pillars made of ultrahigh yield strength steel are designed to make the cabin stiffer and thus create a survival cell in the event of impact.
At the centre of the vehicle, a roll cage provides effective protection against side impact. It consists of the central pillars connected at the top by a roof cross-member and resting on the side members at their base. The front doors are part of the impact protection system and are fitted with reinforcing bars to increase overall stiffness.
To enhance passive safety levels, the new C5 features a complete, dependable range of features to protect all the occupants:
• The new C5 is fitted with seven airbags as standard. The driver and front passenger are protected by front and side airbags, The fixed central part of the steering wheel ensures that the driver airbag always deploys at the right angle. At the same time, a knee airbag provides improved protection for shins and knees by limiting impact with the steering column, which retracts by 65 mm. Two curtain airbags provide head protection for passengers at the front and rear
Alongside these seven airbags, two additional side airbags can be fitted at the rear.
• All seats have three-point seatbelts. The front seatbelts are height-adjustable and fitted with pyrotechnic pretensioners and force limiters.
• All five seats are equipped with a system to ensure that seatbelts are attached.
This function informs the driver through an alarm or a visual warning – a picture of the vehicle on the overhead console display unit – when a seatbelt is unattached. This is a highly efficient method of surveillance, particularly when checking the seatbelts of children at the back.
