After successfully rounding out its compact MPV range with the C4 Picasso and Grand C4 Picasso, Citroën is further extending its line-up of spacious people carriers with the new C8, the top-of-the-line MPV combining elegance and driving pleasure.
Modern styling with status
Citroën has upgraded and restyled the C8 to strengthen its top-end positioning and consolidate the Marque’s reputation in the large MPV category. The front end gains large, modernised chevrons, placed at the centre of a more tautly drawn, chrome-framed grille.
Front and rear, all of the C8’s protection mouldings are now painted and underlined with chrome strips. Citroën has also added translucent reversing lights.
New interior with luxury fittings
Drivers and passengers travel in top-end elegance in the C8’s redesigned, predominantly dark-coloured interior. All of the trim on the doors, steering wheel, carpet, mats and the top of the dashboard is now black. Also, the feel of the most commonly used parts has been reworked to be more pleasant to the touch. The C8’s executive status has been consolidated with the addition of chrome trim on the door handles, gear lever and air vent surrounds.
Spacious and versatile interior
The upgrades made to the C8 cabin underline the spaciousness and comfort that make this vehicle a reference in the segment. With a wheelbase of 2.82 m, the C8 is designed to satisfy executive-MPV customers looking for outstanding space.
Responsive and quiet
The HDi 173 DPFS engine and its parallel sequential dual turbo – an innovation on a 4-cylinder diesel engine – set high standards of driveability.
The new engine rounds out the current line-up consisting of a 143 bhp 2.0i 16V petrol unit, with a five-speed manual gearbox or four-speed auto, and two diesels, the HDi 120 and HDi 138 DPFS, both mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
Revised running gear
All versions of the C8 feature MacPherson-type front suspension and a flexible transverse beam at the rear, providing outstanding steering precision.
The HDi 173 DPFS version is equipped with specially designed rear shock absorbers and an anti-roll bar, while the front wishbones gain stiffer rear bushes.
Optimised braking
The brake components have been resized to adapt to the C8’s upgraded performance. The ventilated discs at the front have been upsized to 310 x 32 mm and associated with twin-pot callipers. This set-up gives the C8 precise, long-lasting and easy-to-dose braking.
Pertinent driving aids
Citroën’s largest MPV is now fitted, in Exclusive trim, with front and rear parking assist and the new NaviDrive telematics system. The system combines a large colour screen with a built-in GSM telephone, audio system (radio, MP3-compatible CD player, jukebox function to store up to 10 Gb on the hard disk) and GPS navigation. NaviDrive was also designed to provide a number of additional customer services, namely Citroën Emergency, Citroën Assistance and Citroën On line.
The C8 also ships with a Bluetooth hands-free kit, depending on the trim level. Complete range of safety equipment
To give drivers complete peace of mind at the wheel, the C8 features a full range of driving aids and information, including a speed limiter with cruise control (according to country) and a low-tyre pressure monitoring system (according to trim) that displays the wheel concerned.
To provide occupants with maximum safety, the C8 boasts a complete range of active safety equipment including ABS, TCS, ESP, EBA and automatic hazard warning lights. And for exemplary protection for all passengers, the C8 is fitted with six airbags as standard.
The efficiency of this equipment, combined with a resistant structure, is reflected by the five stars obtained by the C8 in EuroNCAP tests. |
